Medicare Costs in 2026: What You Need to Know

Every year, Medicare premiums, deductibles, and coverage details change. Staying on top of these changes is essential to making sure you're not overpaying or under-covered. Here's a breakdown of what Medicare costs look like in 2026 and what it means for your budget.
Part B Premium
The standard monthly premium for Medicare Part B in 2026 is $202.90. Most beneficiaries pay this standard amount, but higher-income earners pay more through Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amounts (IRMAA).
If your modified adjusted gross income is above certain thresholds, you'll pay a surcharge on top of the standard premium. It's important to plan ahead—IRMAA is based on your tax return from two years prior.
Part A Deductible
The Part A inpatient hospital deductible for 2026 is $1,736 per occurrence—meaning you pay this amount every time you have a hospital stay, not just once a year. Multiple hospital visits in the same year could cost you thousands. This is one of the biggest reasons Medicare Supplement plans like Plan G remain so popular—they cover this deductible completely, protecting you from these recurring costs.
Part B Deductible
The annual Part B deductible for 2026 is $283. This is the amount you pay before Medicare starts covering outpatient services. Once you meet this deductible, you pay 20% coinsurance for most Part B services—with no cap unless you have supplemental coverage.
Part D Changes
Thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act, 2026 brings continued improvements to prescription drug coverage:
- $2,100 annual out-of-pocket cap on Part D drug costs
- $35/month cap on insulin for all Part D plans
- Free recommended vaccines under Part D
- New Medicare Prescription Payment Plan allowing you to spread costs monthly
What This Means for You
Rising costs make it more important than ever to review your coverage annually. A Medigap plan can protect you from unpredictable out-of-pocket expenses, while the right Part D plan can save you hundreds on prescriptions.
